The European Union has endorsed the creation of an EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) dedicated to structuring the cultural and creative sectors and industries (CCSI). This partnership, signed for seven years to begin with, aims to fund education, innovation and business creation initiatives to promote sustainable growth in Europe's cultural and creative sectors. The MIN4CI Foundation, composed of Université Côte d'Azur, Aix-Marseille Université, Avignon Université and the Région Sud, is a founding member of the EIT Culture & Creativity, and as such intends to seize this opportunity to contribute to the European outreach of the ecosystem of the Région Sud by relaying the actions of the EIT Culture & Creativity throughout its territory.
EIT Culture & Creativity is the ninth Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. After initial public funding, it aims to be economically self-sustaining within 15 years.
By creating the first European innovation community dedicated to the cultural and creative sectors, EIT Culture & Creativity aims to improve their competitiveness, resilience and sustainable economic growth. This project relies on interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral networks to multiply economic opportunities.
Long-term, economically sustainable initiatives in education, innovation, business creation and cultural development are co-financed through public tenders. With more than 60 members from 15 sectors in 30 European countries, EIT Culture & Creativity brings together players covering the entire value chain and works to transform innovation into tangible impact in the cultural and creative sectors.
Long-term cooperation in addition to project co-financing
In the coming years, calls for proposals on a European scale will co-finance universities, research organisations, companies, cities and cultural institutions. The aim is to structure a complete ecosystem which, on a European scale, will encourage the development of innovative products, services and business start-ups, and lead to the formulation and implementation of a new training offer that meets the needs of the sector and ensures its financial sustainability.
Focus on five key areas at the heart of the sustainable transition of Europe's cultural and creative industries
The EIT Culture & Creativity focuses on five key sectors to support the transition towards a sustainable economy in Europe:
- Cultural heritage: Strengthen social cohesion through the experiences of visitors, participants and stakeholders of European cultural sites and institutions.
- Audiovisual: Increase the number of products and services based on responsible and trustworthy technologies.
- Gaming: Stimulate the adoption of disruptive trends and technologies such as artificial intelligence, no-code platforms, third-party payment systems, user-generated content and digital ethics, with particular support for small and medium-sized enterprises
- Fashion: Encourage sustainable and innovative design processes to tackle the environmental impact of fast fashion
- Architecture: Support architects in adopting circular and fair practices.
Innovative responses to social challenges
Faced with major challenges such as climate change, digitisation and health risks, the EIT Culture & Creativity is committed to encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. Its ambition is to meet these challenges while strengthening European diversity.
